Figure Drawing Workshop
Join us for a figure drawing session in the Kala gallery space! We will have a model for the full 3 hours during which participants can practice their figure drawing at their own pace, work on incorporating a figure into an existing piece, or however they'd like to use their time! Kala staff members - who are also practicing artists - will facilitate the session and offer any desired feedback or support.
Kala will provide drawing boards and standing easels, but recommend that participants bring tools and surfaces of their choice to the session. Kala will have limited basic materials for general use (such as charcoal, graphite, and newsprint).
Open to all ages 18 and above. For any questions, contact [email protected].
Fellowship News + Application Open
Kala's Fellowship residency program application is now open! Artists receive $3,000, a one to nine-month artist residency with 24/7 access to Kala's facilities, one-month housing at the Higby (across the street from Kala) for artists from outside the Bay Area, a free class, and a culminating exhibition in the Kala gallery as a group. Thanks to support from Sustainable Arts Foundation, one of the six spots is designated for a parent artist (with a child under 18 at home) and thanks to an individual donor, one of the six spots is designated for a veteran artist (one who has served in the US armed forces).
Applications are due March 15, 2023 via slideroom.

We all have stories to share. Some of them are stories we’ve lived. Some of them are stories we imagine. Some of them are just the things we need to tell our friends or say to the world. In this 3-part workshop, you will develop characters and bring them and our ideas to life through making zines. Materials will be provided AND please bring any materials that you are particularly excited about – whether that be a set of pens, some cool paper, or materials for collage.
