Louisville, Ky -- Ahead of Labor Day, the Kentucky Democratic Party hosted a press conference to illustrate Kentucky Republicans' continued attacks against working families and underscore the importance of electing Democrats to the General Assembly who will fight for Kentucky workers. The press conference, held at the IBEW 369 union hall, included remarks from Kentucky Democratic Party leadership, union representatives, and 2024 Democratic candidates.

"Every legislative session, the Kentucky GOP gets even more creative in finding ways to hurt working families," said Morgan Eaves, Executive Director of the Kentucky Democratic Party. “From kicking families off of SNAP to removing workers’ rights to a lunch break and overtime pay, Kentucky Republicans have shown their true colors. Kentucky Democrats stand firm in our shared commitment to fight for our brothers and sisters in labor.”

"We're here today to stand united against continuous attacks on workers' rights,” said Ed Devine, Business Manager of IBEW 369. “This Labor Day serves as an important reminder that we need more leaders in Frankfort who will fight for the interests of Kentucky’s working families."

“For two years in a row, Kentucky’s labor unions have seen strong membership growth. With inflation, corporate greed, housing costs, rising healthcare costs, and many other working class issues, Kentucky workers have made it clear that the best way to fight income inequality is by joining a union,” said Dustin Reinstedler, President of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO. “It is also no coincidence that Kentucky workers as a whole saw real wage growth through collective bargaining. The Kentucky State AFL-CIO is here for any worker who may be interested in joining or forming a union at their workplace.”

“I’ve always had the backs of Kentuckians who get up every day and work hard to provide for their families,” said John Stovall, Democratic candidate for House District 37 and former President of Teamsters Local 783. “I have decades of experience fighting for workers, and we need more leaders in the General Assembly who will go to work in Frankfort with those workers in mind when they make decisions for our state.”

“I believe the working middle class is the heartbeat of our economy,” said Kate Farrow, Democratic candidate for House District 48. “We must do everything possible to help those hard-working Kentuckians and their families thrive, not just survive. Electing leaders who support this vision is the first step.”

Leaders highlighted 2024 legislation spearheaded by Republicans that were aimed at Kentucky’s working families, including those that would throw families off of SNAP, undo child labor protections, remove workers’ rights to a lunch break and overtime pay, and defund public schools.
