DPNM Celebrates Remarkably Diverse and Representative Delegation

Albuquerque- Next week, the Democratic Party of New Mexico will send 45 delegates and 3 alternate delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. All 45 members of New Mexico’s delegation already voted for Vice President Harris during the virtual nomination vote held earlier this month.

New Mexico always sends a diverse and geographically representative delegation to our National Convention. But this year, our delegation is exceptionally diverse and representative of our state.

7 out of the 30 elected at-large and congressional district delegates are under 30 years old and 10 of those 30 are LGBTQIA+.  Our delegation also includes numerous veterans, union members, rural voters, and Native American New Mexicans.

Augustine Montoya, 24-year-old Chair of DPNM’s LGBTQIA+ Caucus (Congressional District 1 Delegate):

“As a 24-year-old, I am inspired to see other young New Mexicans representing our state at the DNC. Our participation raises awareness about important issues and introduces new solutions to the broader Democratic Party; young Americans must have a voice in shaping the future of our country.”

Claudia Risner, Chair of DPNM’s Veterans and Military Families Caucus and US Navy Veteran (At-Large Delegate):

“As one of several veterans in our delegation, I know that we’re excited to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz who walk the walk when it comes to supporting veterans and their families - they have the track record to prove it.”

Sara Attleson, Chair of DPNM’s Labor Caucus, public school librarian, and American Federation of Teachers member (At-Large Delegate):

“Organized Labor, including the American Federation of Teachers, stands behind the Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz, a former AFT member himself, because both have been tireless advocates for the working class and students. Meanwhile, the Trump/Vance Project 2025 agenda would make disastrous cuts to public education and dismantle long-standing protections for workers.”

Julia Brown, President of the New Mexico Federation of Democratic Women (Congressional District 2 Delegate):
"It’s a thrilling time to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention to support my Sorority sister Kamala Harris, who will be our country’s first woman President. The New Mexico Federation of Democratic Women will be doing everything we can to make this historic moment a reality in November."
