Bring on the Gypsy Jazz: DjangoFest Returns to Throckmorton – Sept. 28-Oct. 1

The return of one of the most exciting and innovative musical events in Mill Valley is almost upon us. DjangoFest, the longstanding event inspired by the late gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, returns to the Throckmorton Theatre Sept. 28-Oct. 2 for multiple concerts, workshops and parties. DjangoFest, which regularly attracts legions of fans of the “hot” jazz sound Reinhardt pioneered as well as guitarists from all over the Bay Area, has long been one of the landmark local venue’s most popular events. Full Story.

Larry the Hat’s Community Block Party Returns With a ‘Celebration of Women in Music,' Led by Bassist Angeline Saris

Architect and Interior Designer Sherry Williamson Unveils a Solo Show at O’Hanlon Center for the Arts – Opens Oct. 3rd, Runs Thru Oct. 31st
Williamson’s creations embody her nuts and bolts experience as an architect and award-winning interior designer with a passion for driftwood, textiles, photography, woodworking and a sense of the absurd. Full Story.

After a 4-Year Hiatus, The Redwoods Revives the Annual Bazaar Pop-Up Boutique to Support Programs and Activities – Oct. 6-7

With pandemic turbulence in the rearview mirror, MVFF has been navigating the impact of strikes starting in May by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and joined by the approximately 11,500 members of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) because of long-stalled contract negotiations. Full Story.

MV Friends of Parks & Rec, Which Has Raised More Than $375k to Support Parks and Rec Projects, Hosts 2023 Fundraiser to Do Even More – Oct. 12
Since 2016, community support has driven donations of more than $375,000 to support Parks and Rec projects in Mill Valley. To continue its mission to advocate and provide funding for programs and improvement of facilities, they are hosting a fundraiser at the Community Center on October 12th, 5:30 – 9:30pm. Full Story.

Free Movies in the Park Series Continues With ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ – Oct. 13 at Old Mill Park @ Sundown
Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) arrives at Port Royal in the Caribbean without a ship or crew. His timing is inopportune, however, because later that evening the town is besieged by a pirate ship. The pirates kidnap the governor's daughter, Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), who's in possession of a valuable coin that is linked to a curse that has transformed the pirates into the undead. SF Chronicle Digs Into City of Mill Valley’s Affordable Housing Efforts and Friends of Hauke Park’s Lawsuit That Cites ‘Continued Discrimination’ Against Residents in Eastern Part of Town

The San Francisco Chronicle is the most recent news organization to take notice, with reporter Emily Hoeven quoting Jenny Silva, a YIMBY watchdog and board chair for the Marin Environmental Housing Collaborative, as saying “it’s disingenuous to claim a fair housing violation when the area in question is 70% white and has a median household income of about $124,000. This is not a poor neighborhood by any stretch of the imagination.” Full Story.
