Native American Hall of Honor Seeks Nominations

Bismarck, ND - The public nomination process is open for the 2024 North Dakota Native American Hall of Honor. Located in the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck, the annual North Dakota Native American Hall of Honor program and exhibition recognize Native Americans who have gone above and beyond in representing their tribal nations and cultures. The program is a partnership of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, and the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation. 

Traditional and contemporary achievements are recognized in these categories: Arts and Culture, Athletics, Leadership, Legendary, and Military/Veterans. Nominees can be living or in memoriam. Applications are available online at the ND Indian Affairs Commission website. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, May 1, 5 p.m. Applications need to include two letters of reference and other supporting information.

"This program gives an opportunity for tribal nations to showcase contemporary or historical leaders in multiple areas. The inductees offer inspiration for future generations," said Brad Hawk, executive director of ND Indian Affairs Commission.

The honoring ceremony will be Friday, Nov. 15, 3-5 p.m., followed by a public traditional feed. Recipients will be featured in the North Dakota Native American Hall of Honor at the State Museum. The exhibition featuring current honorees is open to the public.
