Beginning of September means the end of summer, and the end of Summer Reading. We want to thank everyone who was able to participate in the Summer Reading Programs at the Needham Free Public Library this summer!  It's been an adventure through different cultures with performers from all over the world for all ages.  With a theme of "Find Your Voice" we learned all about dance from different countries and stories from different cultures, experienced different sorts of craft programs to get your brains thinking for all ages with in-library programs and take and make kit programs, AND we even got to know some instruments at the petting zoo where people of all ages tried out different rock band instruments!  

We're still compiling results for participation, but generally speaking - this summer was a busy one!  There were 825 people total who participated in the Children's Summer Reading Program, 83 who participated in the Young Adult Summer Reading Program, and the Reading Program for Adults ages 18+ had 53 participants!  The Children's, Young Adult, AND Adult summer reading numbers may astound you!  The Childrens and Young Adult Programs tracked by minutes read and recorded throughout the summer while the Adult program tracked by books and activities on a Bingo Board!  Do you want to guess how many minutes or books were read by each program?  We'll be putting out a few jars at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for your guesses as to how many minutes were read by the two different younger programs and how many books were read by the adult program!  We'll put these jars out the Tuesday after Labor Day on the 5th of September - so get those guesses ready!  We'll let you know what the numbers are (and who guessed the closest, without going over) in next month's newsletter!
