Governor Phil Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the New Jersey delegation continued the Choose New Jersey Governor-led economic mission in the city of Toronto. Meetings and events focused on developing economic relations and creating partnerships between New Jersey and Canada.

Governor Murphy met with Premier Doug Ford to establish a sister state partnership between New Jersey and Ontario, aimed at uniting researchers, business leaders, and students around shared values. This new partnership will foster collaboration across sectors such as life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and financial services. Together, they see this as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive world-changing innovations and create new opportunities for workers on both sides of the border.

Governor Murphy Showcases New Jersey’s Thriving Film and Media Industry at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)

Governor Murphy attended this year's TIFF reception, proudly representing the Garden State alongside the incredible New Jersey creators featured at the festival. Netflix announced a nearly $1 billion investment to build its East Coast flagship production studio at Fort Monmouth, Lionsgate is building a major studio in Newark, and the largest ground-up movie studio complex in North America, 1888 Studios will soon call Bayonne home. This year’s festival features six films that were made in New Jersey: Deny Gallagher’s Americano, Edward Burns’s Millers in Marriage, Dito Montiel’s Riff Raff, Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, David Mackenzie’s Relay, and Pedro Almodovar’s The Room Next Door. Their night concluded with the world premiere of Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band!

Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and members of the New Jersey delegation met with leaders of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Capital Markets, a global investment bank, to discuss strategic partnerships between RBC and New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA) Strategic Innovation Centers, the New Jersey Fintech Accelerator at Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ FAST), and the Princeton AI Hub. The Governor and First Lady met with RBC Capital Markets CEO and Group Head Derek Nelder to find paths for collaboration in fintech, AI, and renewable energy.

Governor Murphy discussed New Jersey and Canada’s thriving innovation ecosystems and highlighted the critical role of startups in driving economic growth. He also underscored New Jersey’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for startups, making it an ideal partner for Canadian innovators looking to scale globally. Over 20 startups represented key industries including life sciences, fintech, cleantech and clean energy, and AI in healthcare.

The event featured important discussions with successful women in the industry, focused on mentorship, fostering diversity, encouraging young women to pursue careers in tech, and overcoming obstacles. The discussion also touched on the need to create a supportive ecosystem for women in tech through policy, education, and community initiatives.

Governor Murphy, RxSource Announce New Jersey Expansion, Bringing New Jobs to West Deptford Facility

During the New Jersey Single Location Promotion roundtable, Governor Murphy made the case to Canadian business leaders that New Jersey is the best state in the U.S. for economic investment, highlighting its strategic location, strong infrastructure, and highly talented workforce. Additionally, he announced the expansion of RxSource in West Deptford, which will add over 48,000 square feet to its U.S. footprint, create jobs in the Garden State, and further boost New Jersey's thriving life sciences industry.
