From: North Platte Pow WowScheduled for July 7th-9th, 2023, the Pow Wow will include Native American singing and drumming, contest dancing and several honoring specials. There will be activities in the arena and the emcee will contribute color commentary and educate the spectators on different aspects of the dance and drumming, Native culture, art and lifestyles.
The 2023 Pow Wow will be at the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park. There will be vendors coming from all across the country with wares ranging from a variety of Native American food, hand crafted jewelry and beadwork, blankets, and stuffed animals. The pow wow will feature traditional, fancy, jingle dress and grass dancers in three age categories. There will also be specials for Golden Age, Tiny Tots and Veteran participants. Of special local interest will be the Men’s Chicken Dance, which mimics the dancing rituals of the Greater Prairie Chicken.
North Platte has many events that celebrate our heritage. We remember the contribution Buffalo Bill made to the mystique of the west, our transportation history and the memory of the North Platte Canteen. What has been missing for many years is a recognition of our area’s Native American heritage. Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. This is a time-honored ritual to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians.
