Please join us this Saturday, November 12 to celebrate and launch the catalog of Lucy Cotter’s Curator In Residence Season 10, Turnstones. The event will include an informal talk between Lucy Cotter and bart fitzgerald, and a screening of participating artist filmmaker Ariella Aïsha Azoulay’s newly released film the world like a jewel in the hand: unlearning imperial plunder ii (2022). Having set aside exhibition receptions through her season for pandemic-related reasons, this event offers a final moment to come together and celebrate.
The newly-published catalog features photographic documentation, essays, transcripts, and performance texts related to Cotter’s curatorial season, which included solo exhibitions by Christine Howard Sandoval and Katarina Zdjelar, a performance of keyon gaskin, and the extensive group exhibition Unquiet Objects, featuring ten artists, including Portland-based Kristan Kennedy and Christine Miller. The catalog is designed by Sibley House.
Turnstones gathered together artists who seek new frameworks for thinking, refusing the available vocabulary and the narrowing down that comes with topicality. The title, a reimagined word found in a poem, hopes to evoke that which becomes the means to an act of turning. It suggests that every structure that has sedimented over time contains another possibility.
