Winter Story Time

Every Wednesday morning, we read books together, sing songs, learn rhymes, play games, explore our surroundings & engage in a craft. Story time is geared towards pre-school aged children, but all ages are welcome!

Scoville Memorial & Pine Plains Free Library (Hybrid) Teen Writing Club! Fridays from 4:30 to 6:00PM

IN PERSON at the Pine Plains Library and ONLINE for writers further afield, of any genre. Teens in 6th-12th grade are welcome. Registration is required. To register and for additional information, please email Abbey at [email protected].

Local writer and poet, Abbey Gallagher, is continuing our adolescent writing workshop series ONLINE using written prompts, physical objects, images, and much more to spark curiosity and imagination in new or regular writers.

Ukraine Envelope Project

Friday, February 17th

from 4:00 to 8:00PM

Remember those gorgeous envelopes you created at the library two weekends back?

Well, they are going to appear, with other art envelopes, in an exhibition hosted by the artgarage in the art garage, behind the greenhouse at Housatonic Valley Regional Highschool this Friday from 4-8pm.

A $10 minimum cash donation for Ukraine and an envelope(s) of your choice to take home. All proceeds will go to three Ukrainian charities. See you at HOUSY, yo!

Stitches for stories

Saturday the 18th @11am

Ages 6+

Join local crochet enthusiast, Sharon Johnson, for the art of crochet for children and their families. We'll review the basics of different stitches and techniques and begin working on crocheted bookmarks, pom poms and story time mats. As we progress, we'll create a whole host of stitched goods that surround the world of books and stories, think tea cozies, book covers, doilies for cookies, you name it!

Sharon is a Salisbury resident who learned to crochet at the age of six from her mother and grandmother. Over the years, she's learned to make hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, blankets among many other great items. Crocheting is a fun and relaxing hobby. All materials will be provided. Registration requested.

Make Book Art: A Community Exhibition

Saturday, February 25th

3 to 4 pm

The exhibition currently on display will run through early March. Community members and artists are invited to join us for a casual gathering to discuss inspiration, process, and all things love of books! Check website calendar for details.

Reading Buddies

Designed to help younger children practice reading, Reading Buddies is a program that pairs emerging readers with another, older "kid." The idea and hope is that connecting with another, older "kid," is a treat in itself, and that reading aloud to a "kid" is low-pressure. At the same time, the student volunteer (age 12-18) serves as a reading mentor, demonstrating how to stay calm while reading and how to conquer reading difficulties. The buddy will ask questions about the text and have a basic understanding of assessing and helping with reading comprehension. For more information and to register click here.

Virtual Tutoring

School age students

Could you benefit from extra help with certain subjects at school? SML in collaboration with The Hotchkiss School is offering a tutoring program that pairs older and younger students according to their strengths and needs. Tutoring sessions will be facilitated via Zoom. Register here.
