Stitches for stories

Saturday the 19th @11am

Ages 8+

Join local crochet enthusiast, Sharon Johnson, for the art of crochet for children and their families. We'll review the basics of different stitches and techniques and begin working on crocheted bookmarks. As we progress, we'll create a whole host of stitched goods that surround the world of books and stories, think tea cozies, book covers, doilies for cookies, you name it!

Sharon is a Salisbury resident who learned to crochet at the age of six from her mother and grandmother. Over the years, she's learned to make hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, blankets among many other great items. Crocheting is a fun and relaxing hobby. All materials will be provided. Registration requested.

Virtual Tutoring

School age students

Could you benefit from extra help with certain subjects at school? SML in collaboration with The Hotchkiss School is offering a tutoring program that pairs older and younger students according to their strengths and needs. Tutoring sessions will be facilitated via Zoom. Register here.

Reading Buddies

Designed to help younger children practice their reading, Reading Buddies is a program that pairs emerging readers with another, older "kid." The idea and hope is that connecting with another, older "kid," is a treat in itself, and that reading aloud to a "kid" is low-pressure. At the same time, the student volunteer (age 12-18) serves as a reading mentor, demonstrating how to stay calm while reading and how to conquer reading difficulties. The buddy will ask questions about the text and have a basic understanding of assessing and helping with reading comprehension. For more information and to register click here.
