State House Live Music Compilation Fundraiser!

Arts and Entertainment

August 10, 2024

In late May of 2023, the State House Music Venue permanently closed its doors to make way for the construction of a new apartment building. Sad goodbyes were made, huge final shows performed, and a general outpouring of love and support from the community all came out from every corner of New Haven. This was the end of our passion project, but it didn't tell the whole story.

For five years, the State House worked tirelessly to build a cultural hub that focused on catering to it's community and making sure that everyone felt included, seen, and safe. Opening a music venue that actually booked shows for everyone was always the goal. In a culturally diverse town such as New Haven, we felt that enough wasn't being done in order to unite these audiences and give the town something it didn't know it needed. Through the help of our amazing staff, we grew into the role we set out to achieve. We booked bands from every corner of the globe, we went after every genre possible, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe while at the venue.

The results were amazing, we were witness to endless talent, love, and ingenuity from behind the soundboard of the venue. Radically diverse audiences were walking through the doors regularly all through the weeks. It was overwhelming at times and I'm hard pressed to remember everything that happened.

Luckily, we recorded a great majority of the shows we put on at the State House. When setting up the sound system for the venue, we ran cable from the soundboard to a computer using Ableton. The advantage of using our board as a digital Audio Workstation was that it allowed us to close mic instruments and have every channel from the board be recorded separately allowing us to refine (enhance for clarity but never to change what was in the room) the live sound for recordings and deliver studio quality recordings.

Now that a year has passed and we're wrapping up the last bits of fees and dues etc, we decided to talk to some bands (mostly locals, regionals, and a couple nationals) and get approval to put together a digital compilation. This comp will be used to compile and document some performances we've had for public enjoyment, but it will also act as a fund raiser to help close out the books. Every pledge of $20 or more (up to you) will help one pay for the mixing/mastering of this comp and also towards accounts that need wrapping up.

We loved the tumultuous rollercoaster ride that was owning and operating the State House. We're overjoyed to hear that it was held in high regard by the surrounding community. We met tons of people through this and were exposed to a whole lot of good that we feel would otherwise go unnoticed without a stage for them.

Please donate to this cause, so we can put this comp together, showcase the talent and amazing sound we all enjoyed, and put to bed any and all accounts left.

Thank you again for the love and support, New Haven.
