Statement on Senator Dan Foreman

Government and Politics

October 7, 2024

As you may have seen over this past week, the mainstream media has been running with this racism narrative. This was a setup, pure and simple. Dan Foreman is not a racist nor does Idaho have a systemic racism problem. This is a non-issue, as it didn’t happen as reported. It is entirely scurrilous as to what the democrats and media are doing to this man. After reviewing and verifying, the Idaho GOP stands behind Dan Foreman. Read his statement about the incident in his own words:

I don’t normally respond to blatant lies, because it is not worth the effort.  Lies always fail to influence people of intelligence and common sense.  But, in this case I will deviate from my normal strategy.

First of all, I made no, repeat no, racial slur or statement of any nature.  The accusation made is patently false.  Secondly, I threatened no one at the forum.  This accusation is also patently false.  I told my political opponent to stop deviating from the stated rules of the forum and not to repeat the offense during the ensuing proceedings after she violated those rules by making a personal and unwarranted insulting attack on me in her opening remarks. There was no threat of any nature there.  Are we not allowed to challenge people who don’t follow the rules the rest of us must follow?

Now let’s get to the heart of the matter.  Idaho does not practice systemic racism.  That is a fact.  And when my accuser was told this fact by a minority forum attendee and me, she flew into a rage and shouted at me that “You people don’t know what you are talking about, because you are not Native American.” I enlightened this person to the fact I was born in America, and I am therefore a native American.  There was no racial slur in my statement. However, one could easily interpret the remarks of my accuser to be utterly racist. What does, “You people” mean?

Now let’s talk about the media coverage of this phony incident.  It is utterly disappointing, but not surprising, the media coverage I have seen thus far is running headlines about how I flew into a rage, stormed out, threatened people, and uttered a racial remark at another individual.  And they say their basis for their assessment and reporting of what they say happened is based on what they are calling reports from several people who were in attendance.  Well, I have reports from numerous folks who were there that the statement of my accuser has no basis in merit or fact.  In other words what has been alleged with respect to a negative racial comment never happened.  And that is because it didn’t happen.  One would hope, the media would at least listen to both sides by talking to a full range of the people who were in attendance. Instead, they apparently cherry-picked statements from a few who are obviously politically biased, in order to support the sensationalizing of what is quite frankly nothing more than a stereotypical left-wing hit job on a Republican candidate.

In the final analysis, I suppose we must expect this type of behavior.  Just look at what they have done to former President Trump. It seems the more effective a conservative elected official is, the more that person is attacked by the left and most, not all, of the media. I guess I must be very effective as a conservative Republican Senator.  And I will continue to be so next legislative session.
