Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month. Come celebrate by attending two programs that showcase women's histories and contributions. More than Pocahontas and Squaws on March 19 shows Indigenous American women have contributed service to Arizona and the U.S. yet were stereotyped in films and remain invisible in the media. This program presents cultural aspects of Indigenous culture and how women have contributed in significant ways, not only to their tribal nations, but to contemporary American life. In the program Women's History Month Book Talk on March 26, Arizona authors and speakers Janelle Molony and Jodi Nasch Decker share the compelling narrative biography Poems From the Asylum by Martha H. Nasch. The discussions will center on Martha's poetry and its place in Depression Era history, her treatments for being perceived as mentally insane and the path to overcoming the sensationalistic journalism which attempted to destroy the reputation of women in the Nasch lineage. There will be a drawing for a free book to attendees. REGISTER.

Amy Dominy

Meet TPL's spring Writer-in-Residence, Amy Dominy. Amy grew up loving to read and figured out at an early age that books were magical and necessary. She started submitting her own stories to be published when she was 13. Amy is now the award-winning author of nine books for teens, 

tweens and toddlers. A former copywriters and MFA playwright, Amy writes contemporary YA, character-driven middle grade and humorous picture books including the Cookiesaurus Rex series, a reader-award winner in multiple states. Her novels have been recognized as Bank Street College Best Book Selections and OyMG is an ALA Sydney Taylor Notable Book for Teens.
