New York, NY (August 11, 2023) – The Morgan Library & Museum is pleased to announce its 2023-2024 season of Music at the Morgan. The season celebrates the intersection between art, literature, and music, with engaging concerts inspired by the Morgan’s collections and exhibitions.
Early music concerts feature Les Arts Florissants performing Monteverdi and Carissimi; Camerata Trajectina in the performance “New Amsterdam: The Sounds of the City as Heard by Jacob Steendam”; the Boston Early Music Festival series showcasing first-time appearances of I Gemelli and Opera Prima, as well as the BEMF Vocal & Chamber Ensembles in the program “A Garden of Earthly Delights at the Papal Court.” Vocal music recitals include Lindsay Kate
Brown, mezzo-soprano, with Alex Munger, piano; Blake Denson, baritone with Kevin Miller, piano; and the George and Nora London Foundation Competition Final Round. In their Morgan debut, the Cracow Duo perform cello and piano duos of Chopin and Aleksander Tansman. A season highlight is the long-awaited New York premiere of Charles Martin Loeffler’s Octet, which has not been heard since 1897, with a group of stellar musicians.
The intimate Rush Hour Music series features the winds and strings ensemble Frisson, guitarist Mak Grgic, and The Cramer Quartet, who will present a program of Jadin and Haydn, as well as the New York premiere of inti figgis-vizueta’s 30 mengstaße. The Young Concert Artists series opens with the 2023 Winners Concerts followed by the popular noontime concerts with Ying Li, piano; Risa Hokamura, violin; Daniel McGrew, tenor; and Lun Li, violin. Composers include J.S. Bach, Clara Schumann, Isaac Albéniz, and the world premiere of Matthew Ricketts’s Lunch Poems 2, among others.
