From: The Norfolk LibraryLibrary on the Quay, 2014
Tongling, China
This library was built on an abandoned quay by the riverside. The quay used to be part of an industrial wharf, which has now been incorporated into a riverside park. The architects, ATA Studio, intended to preserve the historical memory of the place by using similar materials - rough rubble stone and hard steel - to which they have added soft bamboo. One ceiling is designed as an "upside-down landscape" of bamboo that shakes gently in the breeze (bottom photo). China's first books were crafted from bamboo strips strung on string.

Join Brett for a lively discussion of the importance of soil health and sustainable farming that goes beyond organic certification. Brett will also share new plans at the farm this growing season and how you can get involved. Tracy Hayhurst, Culinary Director of Seed & Spoon, will join the conversation to give a preview of this year’s educational programming at the farm.
