We have some fantastic films opening at the Cinema this week! Listed as the best film of the year by NY Times film critic, Manohla Dargis, and winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival, 'EO' is a truly unique film that follows the visually spectacular, and often surreal odyssey, of a donkey traveling through the European countryside. 'Corsage', which stars Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), captures the defiance and despair of the glamorous Empress, Elisabeth of Austria. And 'The Inspection', is a powerful drama based on director Elegance Bratton's own experiences as a gay man in Marine Corps basic training following a decade of living on the streets.
This week's special events include the opening night of our Winter 2023 Preview Club, a screening the legendary film noir 'Where the Sidewalk Ends', a Sky Room Talk on Elvis's acting career, and screenings of cult favorites such as 'The Mummy', 'Soylent Green', and 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'.

Poland's Official Oscar Submission & Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival
At age 84, legendary director Jerzy Skolimowski (Deep End, Moonlighting) has directed one of his most visually inventive films, following the travels of a wandering donkey named EO. After being expelled from his life in a circus, EO begins a journey across the European countryside, experiencing cruelty and kindness, captivity and freedom. Skolimowski imagines the animal’s mesmerizing journey as an ever-shifting interior landscape, marked by absurdity and warmth in equal measure. Skolimowski constructs his own bold vision about the follies of human nature, seen from the ultimate outsider’s perspective.

By 2022, the cumulative effects of overpopulation, pollution and an apparent climate catastrophe have caused severe worldwide shortages of food, water and housing. In New York City alone, there are 40 million people, and only the city's elite can afford spacious apartments, clean water, and natural food. The homes of the elite are fortified, with private security and bodyguards for their tenants. Usually, they include concubines (who are referred to as "furniture" and serve the tenants as slaves). The poor live in squalor, haul water from communal spigots, and eat highly processed wafers: "Soylent Red," "Soylent Yellow," and the latest product, far more flavorful and nutritious, "Soylent Green."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
In New York, mysterious radioactive ooze has mutated four sewer turtles into talking, upright-walking, crime-fighting ninjas. The intrepid heroes – Michelangelo (Robbie Rist), Donatello (Corey Feldman), Raphael (Josh Pais) and Leonardo (Brian Tochi) – are trained in the Ninjutsu arts by their rat sensei, Splinter. When a villainous rogue ninja, who is a former pupil of Splinter, arrives and spreads lawlessness throughout the city, it's up to the plucky turtles to stop him.
