COMMISSION/COMMITTEES:

Hebron Health and Safety

We have worked 106 days without a work-related injury or accident.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

This week the Public Works Department installed curbing and aprons on Jan Drive. Road edges were topsoiled and curbing backfilled. Road signs were installed as needed throughout town. Heavy rain on Wednesday had the crew opening waterways and clearing catch basins. Potholes and broken road edges were paved at various locations. The crew staked catch basins and curb on plow routes to prepare for the winter season, and trucks were suited with plows and sanders for a possible snow event over the coming weekend.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our toy drive at the Town Tree Lighting this past Sunday. We collected a truck load of toys! Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

After a few delays, Santa and Mrs. Clause successfully completed their journeys around town, and headed back to the North Pole to get ready for the big day. We look forward to this event each and every year, as it brings a tremendous amount of joy to everyone.  Thank you for your support.

This Saturday we will be helping the Resident Trooper and Hebron PD with another drive at Company 1, 44 Main Street, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if we may be of any assistance.

Thank you,

Peter

Chief Peter J. Starkel

This week the fire department responded to 21 EMS, 2 tree/wires, 2 motor vehicle accidents and 1 search & rescue.

Have a nice weekend.

CHATHAM HEALTH

Good morning,

As of December 8, seven Connecticut counties (Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, Tolland and Windham) have a MEDIUM COVID-19 community level.  One county (New London) has a LOW COVID-19 community level.   You can read more about prevention steps recommended by CDC at different community levels here:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/community-levels-county-map.html

-The average daily COVID-19 case rate in Chatham Health District this week is 8.4 cases/100000.
-The number of individuals currently hospitalized is 467.  This is an increase of 54 compared to last week.
-Fatalities increased compared to the last week (16 fatalities this week compared to 15 in the last week).

Approximately 78% of Chatham Health District residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and 52% have received an additional dose.  State-level data indicate that about 13% of children under 5 have had at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine while 8% are fully vaccinated.

In order to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
-Stay up to date with your vaccinations.
-Get tested if you have symptoms.
-STAY HOME if you are sick or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 5 days, and DO NOT leave home until:
-At least 5 days have passed since your symptoms began or since you tested positive,
-you are feeling much better, and
-no longer have a fever.

If you test positive and are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19, there are treatments available that can reduce your chances of being hospitalized or dying from the disease. These medications must be prescribed by a healthcare provider and started as soon as possible after diagnosis to be effective. Contact a healthcare provider right away to determine if you are eligible for treatment, even if your symptoms are mild right now.

You can find a Test to Treat location here: https://aspr.hhs.gov/TestToTreat/Pages/default.aspx?

CDC recommends that everyone 5 and older get the new updated bivalent booster if it has been at least 2 months since they completed their primary series or had their last booster dose.

Chatham Health District is coordinating vaccine clinics.  To see upcoming scheduled vaccine clinics in the district, visit our website: https://www.chathamhealth.org/services-2, or call 2-1-1.

If you or a loved one is homebound and is not up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccination, register here: https://dphsubmissions.ct.gov/homebound

NEWS/COMMUNITY EVENTS:

Community members are invited to gather together in the center of Hebron on Saturday, December 13th from 10am - 11am to show support for the RHAM community - and all of our friends and neighbors - affected by the recent incident at RHAM. A No Place for Hate Rally is hosted by the Coalition on Diversity & Equity (CoDE). We will show that this incident does not define who we are as a community. You can also sign the petition to show your support: https://chng.it/y2WKD8sx. For more information, email CoDE at [email protected].
