Avon Community Fund Issues Second Open Call For Grant Proposals

AVON, Conn. – The Avon Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee is pleased to announce its second open call for grant proposals. The committee will award up to $50,000 in grant funds to one or more nonprofits serving Avon residents. Project applications will be accepted until Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Only one application per organization is allowed.

Any nonprofit registered as a 501(c)(3) organization that serves Avon residents is eligible to apply. Individuals, for-profit businesses and civic organizations that lack a 501(c)(3) IRS designation are ineligible. Town residents may prepare applications in partnership with registered nonprofits that have agreed to serve as fiscal agents for proposed projects. The Town of Avon may also serve as a fiscal agent for applicants. Grant requests cannot exceed the maximum amount available ($50,000) nor be for less than $250.

While all applications benefiting Avon residents are welcome, an April 2022 town-wide survey, which the committee conducted to help identify areas of greatest need, will inform this round of funding priorities. Read the survey report here.

In 2021, the Avon Greater Together Community Fund awarded $20,000 in grants to six nonprofits that address a range of needs for Avon and its residents. 2021 awardees included: Avon Congregational Church Outreach Ministry; Avon Land Trust; CT-ALIVE; Garden Club of Avon; Bottoms Up; and UR Community Cares.

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established the Avon Greater Together Community Fund in 2019 with an initial investment of $100,000. In January 2021, the Community Fund received another $50,000, totaling an investment of $150,000. The community funds’ purpose is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs of their towns, encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement and anchor the Hartford Foundation in each town. The Avon Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee’s role is to develop and lead an inclusive process to identify needs in our community and a grantmaking process to help ensure Community Fund grants have the greatest impact for Avon residents.

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is the community foundation for Hartford and 28 surrounding towns. Through partnerships, the Foundation seeks to strengthen communities in Greater Hartford by putting philanthropy in action to dismantle structural racism and achieve equity in social and economic mobility. Made possible by the gifts of generous individuals, families and organizations, the Foundation has awarded grants of more than $894 million since its founding in 1925.
