SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The Social Services Program Coordinator assists in the coordination of social services for those in need residing in the Town.

Essential Functions:

Assist residents with utility and heating emergency as well as other hardships.

Assist and advocate on behalf of residents who need help accessing benefits and other available programs directing them to the proper agencies.

Write grants for emergency funding for individuals and families suffering from hardship.

Maintain current and accurate resources and referral information regarding other social services programs and organizations.

Assist in the collection and distribution of supplies for the holidays and other seasonal programs. 

Administer crisis benefits from Fuel Bank and donation funds.

Accepts applications. Schedules appointments, gives information to callers, composes correspondence, and preforms other administrative and clerical duties.

Is liaison with Foodshare and coordinator of the Town food pantry operation.

Ensure all case files and other records comply with all relevant policies, regulations, and procedures. 

Other Functions:

Establishes and maintains accurate and confidential files at all times.

May performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum two years preferred with related experience with a comparable organization or Municipality is required. 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public, older and/or disabled residents.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities.

Able to think quickly, assess a situation and make a sound decision.

Ability to be available to work non-scheduled hours for special events, trips, etc.

Preform related duties as required.

Must be able to perform continuous bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 25 lbs.

Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position reports directly to the First Selectman and has no supervisory responsibilities.
