SENIOR CENTER NEWSLETTER

TOWN CLERK

The task of finalizing the state reports for the November 8th election is underway. The Town Clerk’s Office issued 543 absentee ballots and approximately 4,350 voters came to the polls to cast their votes.

A date has been set to begin migrating the town’s land and vital record collection to an external hard drive, in preparation for transitioning to the IQS systems.  IQS has confirmed the official installation to take place the first week in December.  The former company, Kofile, is committed to assisting us to ensure a smooth exchange of information.

When the IQS system is installed, we will begin to accept electronic recordings for the land records which will offer a greater level of service to the public.

PARKS AND RECREATION

Please welcome Jill May to the Parks and Rec team as our new Office Assistant!  Our office will now be staffed Monday-Thursday from 9am-2pm.  Walk-in service will be available during those times and phone calls will now be answered in a more timely manner.

The Air Line Ghost Run Half Marathon was a huge success this year with 174 participants from 7 different states!  Thank you to our many volunteers and staff, including Public Works, Police, Fire, and CERT who were instrumental in keeping our runners safe.

Celebrate National “Take a Hike” Day with a guided hike through the beautiful Hibbert Property on 310 Colchester Road on Thursday November 17th at 10am.  If you can’t make it on Thursday, join us at the same location on Saturday November 19th at 10am.  This property is a hidden gem with picturesque vistas alongside Raymond Brook, glacial erratics, old mill and dam sites, and plenty more to be discovered.  Please allow 1.5 hours to complete this easy to moderate hike and dress appropriately.

Park bathrooms, including portable toilets, will be closed for the season on Monday November 14th.  Please plan accordingly.

We are hiring!  The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking applicants for our PREP Before and After School program that runs throughout the school year.  Morning and afternoon hours are available Monday-Friday.  PREP staff plan and implement games and activities, serve snacks, and interact with children grades pre-k through 6th, while acting as positive role models and providing guidance and leadership.  Visit our website or call 860-530-1281 for more information.
