Hebron Health and Safety

We have worked 50 days without a work-related injury or accident.

Public Works Department

This week Public Works was charged with paving the crossing on Prentice Hill Road. Town Hall and Veterans Park parking lots were lined striped.  Potholes were patched on the north side of town.  Distinctive Tree ground stumps behind the Library and VFW.  Tree cutting was conducted at 108 Old Colchester Road. Large rocks were removed on Hoadly Road from a previous draining project.  Mowing took place behind the Douglas Library and around the VFW.  We continue to do our weekly pick up of trash and books. Waterways were checked early this morning from the rainstorm last night.

Fire Department

2022 marks the 100th year of Fire Prevention Week, and members of the Hebron Fire Department spent the week with students from RHAM Pre, Gilead Hill, and Discovery Zone Schools discussing fire prevention and safety with these captive and intrigued audiences. This is truly one of the best parts of our jobs. I think we smiled and laughed just as much as the kids did! Remember, fire prevention and safety is for everyone, not just the kids! We are always happy to come out and assist our community partners with prevention and education services, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Harvest Moon Fest, please stop by and say hi and take a look at the trucks!

This week the fire department responded to 9 EMS, 1 fire alarm, 1 vehicle fire and 1 lock out.

Town Clerk

Preparations for the State Election to be held on November 8th are well under way.

Four people have registered with our office to be “Circulators of Absentee Ballot Applications”.  These circulators are assigned a “number series” from our office to be used on the applications they plan to mail to Hebron voters.  All applications must be assigned a number and as of today the town clerk’s office has issued 3,700 application numbers to these circulators. Therefore, we are preparing for a massive amount of absentee ballot requests.

Chatham Health District

Good morning,

As of October 13, all eight counties (Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham) have a MEDIUMCOVID-19 community level.

You can read more about prevention steps recommended by CDC at different community levels here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/community-levels-county-map.html

-The average daily COVID-19 case rate in Chatham Health District decreased this week to 10.0 cases/100000.
-The number of individuals currently hospitalized is 405.  This is an increase of 17 since last week
-Fatalities decreased compared to the last reporting period (17 fatalities this week compared to 20 in the previous week).

CT DPH data show that approximately 77% of Chatham Health District residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and 51% have received an additional dose. State-level data indicate that about 11% of children under 5 have had at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine while 5% are fully vaccinated.

In order to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
- Stay up to date with your vaccinations.
- Get tested if you have symptoms.
- STAY HOME if you are sick or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 5 days, and DO NOT leave home until:

  • At least 5 days have passed since your symptoms began or since you tested positive,
  • you are feeling much better, and
  • no longer have a fever.

If you test positive and are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19, there are treatments available that can reduce your chances of being hospitalized or dying from the disease. These medications must be prescribed by a healthcare provider and started as soon as possible after diagnosis to be effective. Contact a healthcare provider right away to determine if you are eligible for treatment, even if your symptoms are mild right now.

You can find a Test to Treat location here: https://aspr.hhs.gov/TestToTreat/Pages/default.aspx?

CDC recommends that everyone 12 and older get the new updated bivalent booster if it has been at least 2 months since they completed their primary series or had their last booster dose. Chatham Health District is coordinating vaccine clinics.  To see upcoming scheduled vaccine clinics in the district, visit our website: https://www.chathamhealth.org/services-2, or call 2-1-1.

If you or a loved one is homebound and is not up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccination, register here: https://dphsubmissions.ct.gov/homebound

News/Community Events:

St. Peter's Episcopal Church Latin Flavor Dinner

St. Peter's Episcopal Church will hold its next monthly community dinner on Saturday, October 15th from 4:30 until sold-out. In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, where we recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States, we will be serving a Latin Flavor dinner. The theme for this month is UNIDOS – inclusivity for a stronger nation. The meal is provided by Edwin Maldonado, owner of the Latin Flavor restaurants and food truck located in Windham and Middletown. His delicious food is also enjoyed at various towns events.

The menu will include roasted pork shoulder with Latin seasoning (pernil), yellow rice with peas (arroz con gandules), potato salad with Latin flavoring (ensalada de papa), sweet plantains (platanos maduros), and Puerto Rican sauce (fry sauce). Dessert will be flan and Puerto Rican cookies (manecaditos). The cost is $15.

This is a take-out-only dinner with no preorders or reservations – first come, first served. Servers will come to your car, take your order, and money and return to your car to place them in the back seat or trunk. You will not get out of your car. If both parking lots are filled and the food is ready, we may start at 4:00.

As part of the St. Peter's outreach programs, a portion of each meal sold this month will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Think outside of the box, try something new, and plan to join us at St. Peter’s for this special treat! The church is located at 30 Church St. (Rt. 85) in Hebron. For more details, please contact the church at 860-228-3244 or visit the church website at  www.StPetersHebron.com.
