Speed Limit signs were installed and replaced at multiple locations throughout town. Roadside mowing is continuing, and patching and curb installation took place at Amston Lake and Hoadly Road. Tree trimming and removals took place on Mill Landing, Pendleton Road, and Old Colchester Road. The crew assisted with removing and installing new plantings at Town Hall.

SENIOR CENTER NEWSLETTER

FIRE DEPARTMENT

This week the fire department responded to 19 EMS, 2 tree/wires down, 1 fire alarm and 1 motor vehicle accident.

TOWN CLERK

Preparations for the State Election to be held on November 8th are well under way.

Four people have registered with our office to be “Circulators of Absentee Ballot Applications”.  These circulators are assigned a “number series” from our office to be used on the applications they plan to mail to Hebron voters.  All applications must be assigned a number and as of today the town clerk's office has issued 3,700 application numbers to these circulators. Therefore, we are preparing for a massive amount of absentee ballot requests.

The process of migrating the town’s land and vital record collection to an external hard drive, in preparation for transitioning to the IQS systems has begun.  We are waiting for IQS to inform us of the install date.  The former company, Kofile, is committed to assisting us to ensure a smooth exchange of information.

When the IQS system is installed and the records data base is migrated, we will begin to accept electronic recordings for the land records which will offer a greater level of service to our customers.

PARKS AND RECREATION

The Veterans Park parking lot will be closed October 7 – October 9 for resurfacing.  The park will remain accessible, but we recommend visiting our other playground, trails, and fields around town!

CHATHAM HEALTH DISTRICT

Good morning,
As of September 29, seven counties (Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, Tolland, Windham) have a MEDIUM COVID-19 community level. One county (New London) has a LOW COVID-19 community level.

You can read more about prevention steps recommended by CDC at different community levels here:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/community-levels-county-map.html

-The average daily COVID-19 case rate in Chatham Health District increased this week to 17.5 cases/100000.
-The number of individuals currently hospitalized is 383.  This is a decrease of 17 since last week
-Fatalities increased compared to the last reporting period (22 fatalities this week compared to 14 in the previous week).
CT DPH data show that approximately 77% of Chatham Health District residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and 51% have received an additional dose. State-level data indicate that about 11% of children under 5 have had at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine while 4% are fully vaccinated.

In order to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
-Stay up to date with your vaccinations.
- Get tested if you have symptoms.
-STAY HOME if you are sick or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 5 days, and DO NOT leave home until:

-At least 5 days have passed since your symptoms began or since you tested positive,

-you are feeling much better, and

-no longer have a fever.

If you test positive and are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19, there are treatments available that can reduce your chances of being hospitalized or dying from the disease. These medications must be prescribed by a healthcare provider and started as soon as possible after diagnosis to be effective. Contact a healthcare provider right away to determine if you are eligible for treatment, even if your symptoms are mild right now.   You can find a Test to Treat location here: https://aspr.hhs.gov/TestToTreat/Pages/default.aspx?

CDC recommends that everyone 12 and older get the new updated bivalent booster if it has been at least 2 months since they completed their primary series or had their last booster dose. Chatham Health District is coordinating vaccine clinics.  To see upcoming scheduled vaccine clinics in the district, visit our website: https://www.chathamhealth.org/services-2, or call 2-1-1.

If you or a loved one is homebound and is not up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccination, register here: https://dphsubmissions.ct.gov/homebound

St. Peter's Episcopal Church Latin Flavor Dinner

St. Peter's Episcopal Church will hold its next monthly community dinner on Saturday, October 15th from 4:30 until sold-out. In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, where we recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States, we will be serving a Latin Flavor dinner. The theme for this month is UNIDOS – inclusivity for a stronger nation. The meal is provided by Edwin Maldonado, owner of the Latin Flavor restaurants and food truck located in Windham and Middletown. His delicious food is also enjoyed at various towns events.

The menu will include roasted pork shoulder with Latin seasoning (pernil), yellow rice with peas (arroz con gandules), potato salad with Latin flavoring (ensalada de papa), sweet plantains (platanos maduros), and Puerto Rican sauce (fry sauce). Dessert will be flan and Puerto Rican cookies (manecaditos). The cost is $15.

This is a take-out-only dinner with no preorders or reservations – first come, first served. Servers will come to your car, take your order, and money and return to your car to place them in the back seat or trunk. You will not get out of your car. If both parking lots are filled and the food is ready, we may start at 4:00.

As part of the St. Peter's outreach programs, a portion of each meal sold this month will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Think outside of the box, try something new, and plan to join us at St. Peter’s for this special treat! The church is located at 30 Church St. (Rt. 85) in Hebron. For more details, please contact the church at 860-228-3244 or visit the church website at  www.StPetersHebron.com.
