Get Out and Vote!
It's hard to avoid the biggest issue facing Norfolk--and the Nation--this week. The critical mid-term election is Tuesday and everyone should make his or her viewpoint known at the polling place. Below, find a link to a sample ballot so you can be prepared when you go to the polls. Of course, voting is a confidential matter, but so, too, are many of the papers in our possession. The Norfolk Foundation and National Iron Bank are providing a Shred It Day Saturday to give townspeople a chance to rid themselves of sensitive documents in a safe way.
For more about what’s happening, visit norfolkct.org's calendar section, your daily directory to Norfolk living. Be sure to forward this newsletter to a friend so they can sign up for a free subscription.
Ballots and Bus Make Voting Easy
See the Connecticut Secretary of the State's sample ballot for the November 8 election here. In addition to electing state and national legislators, there is a ballot question in the upcoming election concerning early voting. Read more. Once you've perused the ballot and the question, be sure to schedule a ride to the polls if you need one. The Norfolk Community Bus will be available to transport voters to Town Hall. Contact the Selectman's Office to arrange for a ride at 860-542-5829.
Shred Sensitive Information Saturday
There will be a free drive-through Shredding Event Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to noon, in the Town Hall parking lot. Bring paper-based materials and small fasteners (paper clips and staples are okay). Do not bring three-ring binders, newspapers, plastic objects or electronic media. Do not bring any material considered toxic, dangerous or regulated under any federal or state law. Please note, shredded paper is not recyclable in the paper recycling at the transfer station--the paper pieces are too small and clog up processing. The event is sponsored by the Norfolk Foundation and the National Iron Bank.
Covid Vaccination Clinics Announced
The Norfolk Town Hall, 19 Maple Ave., will be the site of free Covid Vaccination Clinics on November 10 and December 1, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Appointments are not necessary.
"Color in the Box" Opens at Hub
"Color in the Box," an art exhibit by Lisa Hamilton and Aaron Wexler, is on display at the Norfolk Hub through December 20. The exhibit consists primarily of works on paper that explore visual play and flexible thinking through use of color, shape and line. There will be an artists' reception Thursday, November 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m. For details, contact Jen Pfaltz at [email protected].
Mindful Meanderings on Canaan Mountain
Venture out into Great Mountain Forest Saturday, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., to release tension and stress, gain inspiration and learn new ways to connect with nature with mindful outdoor guide Stephanie Landau. Landau will be joined by a Great Mountain Forest naturalist to answer nature-based queries. The program is for persons aged 18 and older. Meet at the East Gate Trail, 201 Windrow Road. For more information, contact Matt Gallagher at Great Mountain Forest, 860-824-8188, or [email protected]. Register here.
The St. Martin of Tours Parish, of which Immaculate Conception Church is a part, will hold a holiday bazaar Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bittermann Center, 2 Daisy Hill Rd., Canaan. There will be baked goods, a 50/50 raffle, handcrafted holiday decorations and more.
Register with the Norfolk Curling Club, 70 Golf Drive, for a two-hour clinic Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Participants will receive a brief overview of the game, rules and terminology and instruction on delivery and sweeping. Time permitting, curlers will play a couple of ends.
