Caroling, Cocoa and a Christmas Tree 

It's here! the busiest time of the year, when we cram three major holidays into six weeks. We barely get the Thanksgiving dishes done before we are thrust into the hurly-burly of Christmas and New Years. So, here we go, beginning with a carol sing at the library and the town tree lighting Sunday on the Village Green.

Norfolk Will Be Merry and Bright 

Norfolk will be merry and bright Saturday evening following the annual carol sing in the great room at Norfolk Library and the subsequent tree lighting on the Village Green. The carol sing, with seasonal refreshments, begins at 5:00 p.m. For those who choose not to sing, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will pass out cups of hot cocoa and munchkins on the Green, starting at 5:45 p.m. At 6:00 o'clock sharp, Santa arrives on his fire engine sleigh-of-lights, passing out candy canes to children then lighting the Town's tree.

Fire Department Sounds Cautionary Note 

It's a wonderful season, but all too often it is marred by tragedy caused by carelessness. The Norfolk Fire Department has issued a cautionary note about disposing of fireplace ashes. Litchfield County Dispatch dispatched first responders to three brush fires in Harwinton, New Hartford and Barkhamsted this week, all started by ashes dumped in the woods. Point of Information Officer Jon Barbagallo says residents should make sure hot ashes are completely cool before dumping them. Ashes should never be placed in a plastic bucket, paper bag or left inside or near a house. Smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors should have new batteries and be tested regularly to ensure their proper operation while fireplaces and wood or pellet stoves are in use

Immaculate Conception Sets up Giving Tree 

Immaculate Conception Church will set up its Giving Tree Sunday and keep it in place through December 11. Those wishing to make Christmas merrier for a child in need can choose a tag from the tree and purchase the gift listed on it. Gifts must be under the tree by December 11 for distribution by local social service agencies.

Teen Board Game Night Friday 

The Teen Advisory Board at the Norfolk Library is holding a Teen Board Game Night tonight (Friday), 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. It is for teens only. There is a prize of a $25 Dunkin' Donut gift card. RSVP to [email protected].

Max Creek Takes Infinity Stage 

Infinity Hall lights up again tonight (Friday) when Max Creek takes the stage at 8:00 p.m. Formed in 1972, the band has been around for 50 years. From the beginning, it mixed anything the members liked—rock, country, reggae, soul, jazz, calypso—in with their own songs. Corner Club Book Talk about Island Ecosystem 

November is Picture Book Month and Nancy F. Castaldo, author of "The Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale, Restoring an Island Ecosystem," will give a book talk at the Norfolk Library during the weekly Corner Club session at 3:45 p.m. Castaldo is a National Geographic Certified Educator. Parents are welcome. Call the Circulation Desk at 860-542-5075 to let them know you are coming.

First Bonspiel Opens Thursday 

The Calder Trophy Bonspiel at the Norfolk Curling Club begins Thursday and runs through Sunday at the club's headquarters, 70 Golf Drive. There will be a Sunday finals round. The public is invited to watch the action. For information, go to [email protected].
