The Tolland Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Classroom Assistant within our Tolland Tykes Preschool Program.  The Classroom Assistant provides the Head Teacher help with the implementation of the Tolland Tykes curriculum for children age 3, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-11:30am.  Applications are available in the Town Manager’s Office, Hicks Memorial Municipal Center, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084 or at www.tollandct.gov under Help Center.  Applications and resumes should be sent to 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084, attention Michael Wilkinson.

This is a part-time position averaging 5 hours per week.  Qualified applicants will possess the following skills:

QUALIFICATIONS:

18 years old or older. 

Must have at least one of the following:

-High school diploma or equivalency certificate (BA or BS, in a subject relating to early childhood field, preferred).

-Previous experience working with children with at least five hundred and forty (540) hours documented experience in working with unrelated children of the same age(s) to be served in this child day care center or group day care home.

Proven ability to work effectively and professionally with adult staff, parents and children.

Demonstrated skills in effective communication, both written and verbal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the Site Head Teacher’s Supervision and Leadership

-Assist in overseeing day-to-day operation of the classroom; including maintaining a harmonious and efficient work environment.
-Provides direction, when needed, for teaching staff/subs in classroom.
-Assists with Families - Orientation and Communication.
-Assists in the maintenance of appropriate standards for children's discipline and behavior standards using non-punitive methods.
-Assists in maintaining and providing periodic testing of emergency response plan.
-Continues to develop professional self.
-Maintains cleanliness of the classroom environment.
-Other responsibilities as assigned.
