Homologous Structures Infographic
Audience: Families
Grades: 6 and up
Duration: 5 minutes
When you look in your backyard you may see wings in different forms — a bluejay hiding in a tree, a hawk soaring up high, or a bat nimbly navigating through the night sky. Even at your Thanksgiving dinner, you may notice similarities between a turkey's wings and those of our backyard friends. Why do these flying creatures share similar traits? And, what does this have to do with the way whales swim? Join BIO 173 students Ali Attar and Spurthi Jayadeva as they explore homologous structures — similar body structures between different species.
Ali Attar and Spurthi Jayadeva created this infographic for BIO 173, an introductory Biology lab class. Using museum exhibits as inspiration, BIO 173 students created comics and infographics to share foundational concepts in evolution with museum audiences.
