Hartford, Conn. (July 17, 2024) United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut awarded nearly $1.2 million to support 37 organizations across its region. In addition to the awards, the organization is announcing the beginning of a series of design sessions that will shape their new strategic vision to end poverty in all forms in central and northeastern Connecticut. 

“This is an important moment: A Centennial milestone is a call to reflect and make sure our plans are aligning around our community’s most pressing concerns. The funds awarded will ensure that critical needs will be addressed, and services will continue for the benefit of our community. Then our design sessions will be an opportunity for our community to shape how we are going to close gaps in child literacy, wages, housing and life expectancy moving forward,” shared Eric Harrison, President and CEO, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.

Design sessions just started on July 16, 2024 and the opportunity to join for any organization working on child literacy, wages, housing and life expectancy is still open. “Our new model is bold and broad and allows us to reshape the traditional partnerships that have been in place with community partners,” added Harrison. In the past, United Way partnerships were limited to those that received funds; moving forward the partnerships will be based on a shared commitment to closing gaps in child literacy, wages, housing and life expectancy with the ultimate goal of ending poverty in central and northeastern Connecticut.  

Organizations interested in partnering with United Way are invited to respond to a Request for Qualifications (RFQ).
