Utah Democrats Condemn Trump’s Authoritarian Sideshow, Call On Spencer Cox To Reconsider His Endorsement

October 28, 2024

Salt Lake City - Utah Democratic Party Chair Diane Lewis released the following statement on Oct 28, 2024:

“Oct 27ths authoritarian sideshow, held by the Trump Campaign at Madison Square Garden, was an unacceptable display of racism and sexism from Trump’s closest allies. Speakers made obscene comments about Latinos, called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of hot garbage,’ demeaned Palestinians, alleged that Vice-President Harris was a prostitute, the antichrist, and mocked her with a false ethnicity.

Trump’s refusal to condemn these comments when he took the podium, along with his threats to deploy the military against ‘the enemy within,’ is an unambiguous betrayal of American values.

For Spencer Cox and Utah Republicans to continue to support the Trump campaign after this shameful display is appalling. In light of last night’s racist and sexist rhetoric, I call on Spencer Cox and Utah Republican leaders to reconsider their endorsements of Donald Trump.

Utah Democrats maintain our commitment to preserving the American Dream for all Utahns, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. We only have a week to defeat Donald Trump’s authoritarian agenda and his allies in our state. Your vote is your voice, and this election is too important to let it go to waste.”
