Jessica Velasquez Calls Out GOP on Far-Right Project 2025 Vision for Another Trump Term

Today, on the last day of the Republican National Convention, Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Jessica Velasquez released a video statement and corresponding written statement addressing the GOP’s authoritarian Project 2025 vision for another Trump term and the former President’s speech to the Convention.

“Banning abortion nationwide, retribution on political opponents, tax handouts for the wealthiest, and eliminating healthcare coverage for millions - that’s just some of what’s in the authoritarian Project 2025 vision for another Trump term that would be even more chaotic and disastrous than the first.

“With the spotlight on the Republican National Convention, Americans see Republicans on their best behavior. But we remember Trump’s first term that divided the country, sent inflation skyrocketing, eliminated abortion rights, and denied free and fair elections.

“Despite Trump and J.D. Vance's rhetoric at the Republican National Convention, the Republican party's record and agenda prove they are the Party of division and inequality. Republicans believe healthcare is a privilege only for those who can afford it, and not a right. They want lower taxes for corporations and billionaires, and will rig the tax system against working families.

“Republicans want to force a complete national ban on abortion and reproductive healthcare, including access to contraception. They are also scheming to dismantle Social Security and Medicare to fund their tax cuts for the rich, sacrificing the health and well-being of senior citizens and other Americans who rely on these programs.

“In contrast, Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration are staying focused on expanding healthcare and economic opportunity, while protecting our fundamental rights. The Trump-Vance ticket, aligned with Project 2025’s extreme far-right agenda, threatens the rights and values that are the very foundation of our American way of life.

“Republicans continue to undermine our democracy and fan the flames of division, chaos, and discord. I urge every New Mexican to reject the extremism of Trump’s MAGA Project 2025 agenda at the ballot box in November. The Democratic Party of New Mexico remains dedicated to the priorities of the American people, and we will strive to build an America where everyone can thrive.
