PENNSYLVANIA — David McCormick continues to face scrutiny after his representative deceived a local business by telling them their planned campaign event was an autism awareness event.

Here’s What They Are Saying:

PennLive: Cheesesteaks, autism confusion and fears over campaign photos mark McCormick’s Philly visit

  • Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick was not exactly welcomed with open arms to the City of Brotherly Love on Friday, according to reports.

  • “When you’re done, leave,” a cheesesteak restaurant manager told the McCormick campaign, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. “You’re not welcome back.”

  • McCormick first visited Max’s, a cheesesteak joint in north Philadelphia, under the auspices of holding an autism awareness event, and that’s where things apparently went off the rails.

Pod Save America:

  • Jon Lovett: Literally on Friday, Max’s Steaks, the North Philly site of a Dave McCormick campaign stop to reach Black voters, said the Republican Senate candidate is not welcome back. Why? Because Max’s Steaks was not told the event was a Dave McCormick campaign stop. […] They were told it was about autism awareness. […] Said the manager, as McCormick’s campaign was wrapping up, ‘we didn’t sign up for that at all. Zero. I could throw them all out of here, but I’m going to be nice. Do your thing. When you’re done, leave. You’re not welcome back.’

Crooks & Liars: In PA, McCormick campaign lies about fake autism fundraiser

  • One of [McCormick’s] volunteers decided making something up would be a smart move. It wasn’t.

  • McCormick’s campaign apparently didn’t do enough outreach to Max’s. Mike Sfida, manager at Max’s, said he was told the event was for autism awareness and was surprised to see campaign signs for McCormick and former President Donald Trump being hung up outside the restaurant.

  • Ah, God love ya! Lie, cheat, steal: It’s the GOP way.
