On a balmy Christmas Day in 1969, Rita Abrams sat down on the bench next to the Mill Valley Greyhound Bus Depot (now the Plaza) to write a little song that, thanks to producer Erik Jacobsen, was to make her, the Strawberry Point School Third Grade Class, and Mill Valley itself famous. But more important was the emotional impact it has had on so many people worldwide. Join us as Rita shares memories and stories about her iconic song and its remarkable journey across the world.

Maybe you're bursting with musical talent. Maybe you have the idea for the next great podcast. On your computer, tablet, and phone you can record professional-quality voiceovers, vocals, and instruments, then make use of non-destructive editing and a vast range of plugins to tune, customize, and sweeten your sound. 

In Part I, learn about the workings of microphones, room treatment, and good starting recording setups for voice and common instruments.
In Part II, learn about what to do with your audio once you've captured it. Dynamics, EQ, reverbs, processing, and editing in a Digital Audio Workstation.

This book club is a joint effort between the Mill Valley Library and Mamahuhu Chinese-American Restaurant to showcase the literature of Chinese and Chinese-American authors. Join us for a thoughtful discussion about culture, language, heritage, and belonging. This book club is open to all and meets the 4th Monday of every other month at Mamahuhu Restaurant.

Chinese Couplets with Felicia Lowe

Join us for an evening on a film screening and Q&A with local filmmaker and resident Felicia Lowe. Part memoir, part history, part investigation, Chinese Couplets spans two centuries, three countries and four generations of women in this intimate story that reveals the impact of America’s Chinese Exclusion era on her family. Lowe offers a nuanced, engaging approach to the debate that details the long-term, multi-generational effects of ethnically-motivated immigration policies while imparting a cautionary tale of living with cultural pluralism in the 21st century.

Estate Planning Workshop

Virtual workshop 

The Mill Valley Library Foundation is offering a free estate planning workshop that focuses on reviewing your estate plan. An estate plan may include a will, trust, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and beneficiary designations. The workshop will be led by Lisa Fialco, a certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. She will offer tips to examine your estate plan and ensure that it reflects your current family, finances, and personal priorities. Registration required.
