Our community was turned upside down yesterday by yet another senseless act of violence. Someone destroyed their own life and took another person’s life in the heart of our town — and sent all of us reeling in terror and panic.

We worried about students, faculty, and loved ones trapped on campus and waited desperately in long lines to pick up our littlest ones from their first day back at school. We stared at headlines and wondered how we got here again — how it happened in our backyard. And, then we wondered, what on earth are we going to say to our children?  After we hug them, and kiss them, and remind ourselves that they really are safe, how will we explain today to them?

I don't have all the answers, but I can offer a space for families to gather that will always focus on the future our children deserve and I can offer a list of resources that might help with the hard conversations.

We are open everyday this week for families to come together and will be offering special times in the coming weeks to specifically process yesterday’s events.  Be on the lookout for details via email and social media.  Our Makery is open all day every and we believe in the healing power of creating things — so come and use all of our resources in the ways that best support your family.  Thanks to our NC GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Ribbon of Hope award Admission is FREE for all ALL DAY Friday with special themed STEMonstrations.  We are here to show love and support to our littlest citizens and their families.  We hope we’ll see you soon.
