Maybe your dream is to dance the lead in a Broadway show, Hi-Kick with the Rocketts or dance in a Disney show, or on a luxury cruise liner! Perhaps you'd rather show off your moves in a music video or tour with Jessica Simpson,Britney Spears, JLo, or Ricky Martin. You might prefer to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader or to dance your way through college on a dance scholarship! Since 1986, students at the ACADEMY OF DANCE ARTS have accomplished these things and lots more!
While helping students follow their dream, the studio has won numerous regional and national titles, as well as, top honors in dance competitions. ADA has won Overall and Best of Show awards in every comptition the academy has entered since 1990. Their wins have even included the rarely granted perfect score!
The school, directed by Kathy Willsey and Megan Willsey-Buckland, is recognized by established choreographers, teachers, and dancers as producing dance stars with outstanding skills. Jessica Simpson (The Newlyweds, Dukes of Hazzard, Recording Artist) was a regular winner on the ADA competitve dance teams as was her sister Ashlee (7th Heaven, The Ashlee Simpson Show, Recording Artist). Ashlee also won several dance scholarships and titles while attending ADA. Ms. Simpson also was accepted to the prestigious summer program of the New York City Ballet.
The National Association for the Advancement of the Arts has recognized several dancers from the Academy of Dance Arts and awarded them thousands of dollars toward their dance education.
ADA dancer's jazz training has garnered them national recognition on the competitive dance and convention circuit. It's dancers have reigned as the Teen Male & Female Dancer of the Year for the renowned Tremaine Dance Convention. Currently, ADA has four dancers on the '04-'05 Tremaine National Teen Company and two as apprentices. Dancers from ADA have received numerous dance scholarships to professional training centers in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Several of ADA's outstanding students now perform alonside todays hottest choreographers as they tour the nation as dance assistants. Faculty members include former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, who were members of the elite DCC Show Group that toured and performed in International USO Shows.
Many dance schools focus on ballet only or competitions only. ADA is UNIQUE in it ability to server both areas. "Our dancers can do bombastic, edgy jazz, moving lyrical, and then put on pointe shoes and execute classical ballet", say Ms. Willsey.
ADA dancers gain invaluable experience with their own resident pre/professional ballet company, the Dallas Repertoire Ballet. DRB performs a regular season at the Charles W. Eisemann Center ofr the Performing Arts in Richardson, Texas, including an annual full production of "The Nutcracker".
DRB company members have been selected to participate in the Dallas Dance Festival (former the Dallas Morning News Dance Festival), the University of Arizona Jazz Showcase and the Young Tanzsommer Dance Festival in Austria. They have also been accepted and received scholarships to such prestigious national ballet schools as Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, the Julliard School, Kirov Ballet, and Pennsylvania Ballet, among others.
Ms. Willsey, Exective Director of the Dallas Repertoire Ballet, is a 25 year member of the Texas Association of Teachers of Dancing. She has been honored by the Dallas Dance Council for outstanding work in Tap dancing. She has served as VP of Philanthropy for the Richardson Council of the Arts.
The Academy of Dance Arts accepts student of all levels from age 3 1/2 to 18. ADA has three studio rooms at its location, the largest of which measures 60 by 40 feet. All of them have sprung-wood and marley-covered floors for the safety of the students.
