Ada Township

7330 Thornapple River Drive
616-676-9191

Ada Township was founded in 1821 where the Grand and Thornapple Rivers meet in Western Michigan.

Rix Robinson of New York purchased the trading post from Magdelaine Laframboise (whom headed north to Mackinaw), the granddaughter of Ottawa Indian Chief Kewinaquot (Returning Cloud) and daughter of French-Canadian Fur Trader Jean Baptiste Marcot. After the purchase of the Trading Post Rix Robinson settled Ada and Ada became the first settlement in Kent County. The name "Ada" came to fruition based on the first "Caucasian" baby born in the settlement. Rix Robinson later became Ada Township's the First Supervisor.

Today Ada Township population has grown to approximately 11,000 with a current SEV of $713,845,583.00 and The Township Board has voted and purchased for the residents Park and Open Space property of over 400 acres with more then 300 acres of Riverfront property for public use.
