The Book of Proverbs tells us, “Train a child when he is young, and when he is old he will not depart from his ways.” This concept is the motivation for all that occurs within the framework of the Adath Emanu-El Religious School. Our objective is to help each student develop a positive attitude toward Jewish learning, the skills and habits needed for lifelong learning, and an appreciation of their Jewish heritage. By adhering to these goals, each student will be prepared for a lifetime of spiritual fulfillment and commitment to Judaism.
In addition, it is our belief that education begins at home. Therefore, we have instituted a Family Education program for second through sixth grades, as well as interactive programs in conjunction with Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation. Each grade will focus on a specific topic, which will be integrated into the family education format. We also plan to include Family programs in the Confirmation Program. Through our Family Education program, we hope to bring the entire family together to experience a hands-on approach to Judaism.
In December of 2005, Rabbi Bossov led a group of approximately twenty students in the tenth and eleventh grade on our first Confirmation Class trip to Israel. Currently our plans are to have this trip again in December of 2007. In addition to their regular classes, our students in the Confirmation Class are paired with students in the sixth and seventh grade to help them with the transition into our High School tract.
Teenage students are also integrated into congregational life through participation in worship and educational activities. They are also involved in regional and national youth conferences.
