About Us
Formerly California Kebab & Beer Garden, owners Alex Pierson and JC Hill decided to expand their in house brewery, Amplified Ale Works to shift the restaurant's focus onto the beer, while keeping the California-inspired, Mediterranean-themed menu the same. The college duo opened the first California Kebab in 2009 at San Diego State University, and then brought the concept to Pacific Beach in 2012 with a three barrel brewery and two, seven barrel fermenters. Brewers Cy Henley and JC Hill specialize in hoppy, West Coast style ales, sessionable ales (& some lagers), and a variety of unique, experimental batches across all styles.
About The Brewery
Brewer Cy Henley & Assistant Brewer Garrett Reed brew on a 3 bbl direct fired system from Portland Kettle Works. We double batch every beer that we make to fill our three 7 bbl fermenters you see behind our bar. We also have four 5 bbl serving tanks that we've plumbed into our draft system, eliminating the need for kegging each batch and allowing us to serve our guests the freshest beer possible.
Why We Choose to have Gluten-Reduced Beer
Have a sensitivity to Gluten? Luckily at Amplified all of our beers are Gluten-Reduced with Clarity Ferm. One of our original managers and now assistant brewer, Garrett Reed, is affected by celiac disease. Well, we didn't want him to miss out on all the taste tests, so when we heard Clarity Ferm could help, we decided to put Garrett to the test and it passed! So today we make sure all our beers are gluten reduced so that our friends and everyone with a gluten sensitivity can enjoy the awesomeness of beer!
