History, heritage and preservation - these are the goals and watchwords of the Bedford County Historical Society. The Society traces its roots to a group of Bedford Countians who first met on April 11, 1954, to form an organization to organize and preserve county records and to compile county history. They formed a society, elected officers, and met regularly for more than two years. Meetings became irregular after that, but much historical activity continued in the county as various projects were completed in connection with the Civil War Centennial
