The Bethlehem Police Department is a progressive modern police department offering numerous opportunities for promotion or lateral transfer into specific divisions. The department has 144 sworn officers and more than 40 civilian employees, including those in the internal communications department.
The Bethlehem Police Department is structured using the community policing philosophy and is committed to community and police partnership. Police department structure has six divisions: Patrol, Community Services, Traffic, Investigations, Administrative, and Communications. Special positions include criminal investigators, court liaison officer, detectives, motorcycle officers, bicycle officers, drug elimination officers, plain-clothes vice officers, school resource officers, community officers, hit-and-run investigator, school safety officer, property officer, and special weapons and tactical officers.
