About Us:
The Bishop Hill Arts Council is a local non-profit organization formed in 1983 and its purpose is to present and promote the arts and artisans that reflect the traditions of Bishop Hill. We sponsor many events and activities throughout the year by presenting visual and performing arts at:
Quilt Show
Midsommar Music Festival
Jordbruksdagarna Performances
Illinois Arts Week-Artisans Walk
Julmarknad
Lucia Nights
Plus Other Special Events
We hope to make your visit and time spent in Bishop Hill memorable and that our unique history and tradition in both Swedish and American Will bring you back to visit or just to spend the day.
The arts Council also sponsors annual scholarships to promising area high school students who wish to continue their education in the arts. The scholarship winners’ high school arts programs also receive a donation from the Arts council. We take pride in supporting the community of Bishop Hill with donations that support our volunteer fire department each year and in 2005 the windmill at the Henry County Historical Museum.
To help us pay for our programs, the Arts Council sponsors fund-raising activities including the annual Quilt Raffle,Chocolate Walk and Bake Sales. Our programs are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. We are also supported by area organizations and businesses whose locations you will find on the Bishop Hill map and whose advertisements are inside the Visitors Guide. We hope that you will support them and let them know that you saw them mentioned in this guide. Planning a day trip? Or even longer? Consider Bishop Hill. Come, Relax and enjoy our peaceful, quaint little village!
