We're not all alike. We are not a cookie cutter church. We are as diverse and different as they come. Most of us wouldn't hang out with each other if it wasn't for Christ. But because of Him, we have learned how much we need different people in our lives. Although Branches is only 5 years old, we have people of all ages and all kinds of backgrounds that consider this their church home. Over forty percent of our families are from Catholic background. The other sixty percent is divided up with everything from NO-church background to some of the mainline denominations.
We don't all dress alike, or observe some unwritten dress code. Many of us have had the horrendous experience of having people look down on us because of wearing the wrong thing. Others have felt as though they could not afford to buy "church clothes". As a result of that and the teachings of Jesus, we practice accepting people as they are, as well as being real about who we are. In fact, we strive to act the same way throughout the week as we do on Sundays; no matter what we wear. We encourage people to wear what they're comfortable in.
We don't think we know everything in the Bible. We do believe the Bible is God's word and important, but we still know there is so much to learn and we need to grow in understanding. You will not find an argumentative spirit that always has to be right. We don't have preconceived expectations of people and their knowledge of the Bible, just an open mind to read, learn and grow in the Word.
We are not all perfect. We don't just know that, we believe it is imperative that we remind ourselves we still struggle with sin and still very much need a Savior. We don't intend to excuse our sin, but also don't ever want to pretend it is no longer in our nature. We find that Jesus becomes more real when we really need Him. Sinners need a Savior.
Because of all this, we are far from being a perfect church. But the amazing thing is that Branches has become the perfect church for people looking for a church with less than perfect people.
