Our group makes layettes for needy local babies and military babies. Every baby deserves the basic necessities as they begin their lives, but not all families have the means to provide it. The bundles have a quilt, afghan, onsies, sleepers, receiving blankets, burp cloths, bibs, hats, sweater, jacket or shirt and pants, towel and wash clothes, diapers, baby wash, baby wipes, and a toy. Most items are hand made.
We meet to cut/sew/knit or crochet baby items to prepare a bundle of about 33-35 items. Materials are provided. The bundles are distributed in the local area. We need individual volunteers and community service groups to come to meetings to help with our effort. Community services groups can sign up for a meeting night and we are taking reservations for fall meetings. We have two meeting locations. One during the day and one is an evening meeting. We are always in need of material and yarn and accept monitary donations.
In addition, our group makes diapers from recycled t-shirts for babies in Haiti. We accept size large and up t shirts to be recyled into diapers. In 2010 we distributed approximently 3300 items to needy babies in the local area and 2900 diapers were shipped to Haiti.
