The Carnegie Library is one of the few original Carnegie Libraries that still exist in the United States today. Many of the Carnegie Libraries that have been demolished of are not used for other means. This makes the Monte Vista Carnegie Library very special. It is also on the State Historical Register and the National Historical Register. The Carnegie Library is an asset to the community of Monte Vista and is something that the citizens of Monte Vista are very proud of.
In addition to being a library, the Monte Vista Carnegie Library also presents m any resources for the citizens of the Monte Vista. The library holds beginner and intermediate computer classes, adult basic literature classes and a weekly story hour for young children. The Carnegie Public Library Board of Trustees meets every 3rd Thursday of the month and are open to the public. The Monte Vista Carnegie Library also has a branch library located in South Fork, Colorado, just 30 miles away from Monte Vista.
