Our Mission :
“To enrich and serve our mountain community by promoting and cultivating the arts with quality educational programs, exhibitions and events." Each CAE event, exhibition, class offering, art festival and program is designed to fulfill its mission and to serve the artistic needs of the mountain community.
Our History :
In1974 Evergreen area art enthusiasts formed and incorporated the Evergreen Arts Council as they pursed a plan to build a visual arts/community center. Their intention was to provide mountain area residents with a place to acquire high quality art instruction, view a wide variety of art exhibitions and engage in art activities. In November 2003 that building became a reality with the lease of a 3,500 square foot facility in Buchanan Park partnering with the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District. This Center houses exhibit space (also used for small concerts and recitals), classrooms and meeting spaces that are also utilized for symposiums and lectures. The Center schedules twelve annual art exhibitions showcasing nationally accomplished artists as well as artists from the mountain community. The Art Center and its services are open to everyone free of charge six days a week. Low cost memberships provide individuals and families discounts on art classes offered in a wide variety of media and disciplines including the fine arts, crafts and creative writing. Following the tradition of the Evergreen Arts Council, CAE actively supports the visual and performing arts organizations in the community, including programs with and for area schools. CAE is responsible for publishing a monthly arts calendar in Serenity Magazine highlighting the full array and schedule of mountain area arts events and performances. In February 2007 the Evergreen Art’s Council’s Board of Directors voted to merge the Council and Art Center under one organization’s name: The Center for the Arts Evergreen.
