To nurture and promote a middle school environment that enhances personal success within unique learning communities.

The Central Square Middle School has approximately 1300 students in grades 6, 7, and 8.

CSMS is actually 4 schools within a school that function on their own. Each school is given a color and is aligned in a vertical house (6,7,8) identified as Blue House, Orange House, Red House, and Yellow House. Students are also assigned to a grade-level team within the house. Students are taught English, math, social studies and science by their team teachers. At the 7th and 8th grade level, a technology and/or home and career skills teacher is added to each team as well. Students in 7th and 8th grades could also be enrolled in a language class. They may choose from French, Spanish, German or American Sign Language.

Education in exploratory areas are also part of the curriculum. music, art, and physical education are required at all grade levels.

In addition to the regular curriculum, students in grade 6 are scheduled for Home and Careers, and Computer Basic Skills.

The DARE (Drug Awareness) program provided by the Oswego County Sheriff's Office is also included in the 6th grade curriculum.

In grade 7, students are offered health for 20 weeks and 20 weeks of technology along with the basic curriculum.

Grade 8 students take a semester of technology and a semester of home and career skills. Home and careers focuses on the student's exploration of school to work and the areas of life skills that all adults need to manage a home and family.
