Chad and Jeremy
Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde met at drama school in 1960 and soon began playing the folk clubs of England where they were discovered. After a brief moment of fame in their native land, C&J became a sensation in America on the wave of the British Invasion charting 11 Top 40 hits including the smash "Summer Song," "Yesterday's Gone," "Willow Weep for Me," and "Distant Shores."
The duo made appearances on numerous TV shows in the 60's including "Dick Van Dyke," "Patti Duke," "Batman" and "Lauredo." They also appeared on "The Tonight Show," "Andy Williams," "American Bandstand," and "Hullaballo." They continued to rack up the hits and tour throughout the 1960's.
Some of their most critically acclaimed work was the progressive 1967 release "Of Cabbages and Kings" which pushed the envelope with its unique "Progress Suite." A year later came "The Ark" which pushed the envelope of "Acid Pop" and was a statement on the times in which they lived. Rolling stone proclaimed: "Chad and Jeremy, Out of schlock rock into progressive rock." After 1969, the duo disbanded. They reunited for an album and tour in the 1980's as well as a musical. It would not be until PBS asked them to do a special in 2003 that they would be back in full force.
The years 2008 and 2009 are their busiest since 1968, for there will be three new Chad and Jeremy projects. The first will be Ark-eology (a play on their last Columbia LP titled "The Ark") which will contain all new versions of Chad and Jeremy's greatest hits including Summer Song, Yesterday's Gone, Homeward Bound and more. Release is set for October 21. Next up will be the release of a CD of all new material. It will be their first in over 25 years and will feature the single and title track Zanzibar Sunset! Lastly, the documentary which has recently wrapped shooting titled "Yesterday's Back" will be released and is currently being reviewed by PBS.
