The Club was founded in 1978. See link Origins of Newcomers Origins of Newcomers The idea for what was originally the Chatham Newcomers Club grew out of a discussion among some newly retired people at a New Year's Eve party in Chatham in 1978. These original "Newcomers" (just like most of us present "Newcomers") had previous experience with the Cape as vacationers, summer residents or property owners for many years, thus easing the transition to full time residency.
But there remained for them and for us what one original charter member called ". . . the dread disease of social isolation." So they drafted by-laws, elected officers and created committees charged with promoting camaradarie through a variety of activities, which now include bowling, bridge, golf, biking, day trips, kayaking, poker and even Tai Chi.
