Church Of The Epiphany
About Us:
The Church of the Epiphany is a member of the Hocking Valley Deanery, one of ten deaneries in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.
Comfortable Fellowship:
We're a small town church, so you won’t be "lost in the crowd" at Epiphany, but neither will we make you stand up in the middle of the worship service and introduce yourself, and we won’t harass you for financial contributions. Instead, you’ll be welcomed, and we’ll offer you our genuine friendship and caring.
Traditional Worship Services:
As is the case with all Episcopal churches, our worship services are conducted according to The Book of Common Prayer, which has a history of development extending back to the first century a.d., every service includes four readings from the Bible: a lesson from the Old Testament, a psalm, an epistle, and a gospel reading. Any visitor is welcome to participate fully in any of our services.
Convenient Location:
We’re located at 193 Jefferson Street in Nelsonville only three blocks from Rt. 33. Drive into Nelsonville on Rt. 33 and turn onto Watkins Street between the McDonald’s Drive-In and Stoltz Drug Store. Drive two blocks to the "T" intersection and turn left onto Jefferson Street. We’re in the brick church on the left. Park on the street.
Community Outreach:
Our congregation is small, and we have learned that we can have the most impact by working on and brokering outreach programs in which many of Nelsonville's small churches share resources.
Children's Chorus: We sponsor a children's chorus for children in second through sixth grade. The chorus was started in 2001. The children are paid a small amount for attending rehearsals and performances. During their first three months, the chorus performed at Epiphany church services, in the lobby of Stuart's Opera House during the "Christmas on the Square" festivities, and at the Lindley Inn assisted living facility.
Community Dinner : Once a month, we sponsor and host a free hot meal for anyone in the Nelsonville community. Meals are prepared and served by Hocking College students, Epiphany church, or one of the other Nelsonville churches on a rotating basis.
Food Cupboard: Originally funded primarily by a grant from the Episcopal Community Services Foundation, financial sponsorship of this activity has broadened recently to include participation of all member churches of the Nelsonville Ministerial Association. The Nelsonville Food Cupboard is open four afternoons a week and provides approximately three day's worth of groceries to families facing food emergencies.
Prison Visitations: The second Monday of each month, our parishioners join others to participate in a long running euchre tournament with prisoners at the Hocking Correctional Facility. On Sunday evenings, our deacon conducts services for the young people at the Southeastern Probation Treatment Alternative Center.
Hocking College Emergency Assistance Fund: Suppose you were attending college in a country far from your homeland and you lost your wallet or purse with all your money, your passport, and all identification papers? Or suppose you return to your house or apartment from classes one day to find it burned to the ground with all your belongings? We have started a fund to assist students who find themselves in just such emergencies.
Parade of the Hills Hospitality Station: This is a long-time tradition for Epiphany. The church building is located along the route of the Parade of the Hills--a week-long event that culminates in a traditional American parade. We set up our folding chairs in front of the church for parade visitors to use, open the church restroom facilities to the public, and operate a refreshment stand (proceeds go to the Episcopal Church Women).
