The 9-hole version of the Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club, designed by Charles Almony, was inaugurated on February 15, 1973 with Gene Sarazen attending. In July 1977, the second 9 holes, also an Almony design, were opened and featured Ken Venturi conducting a golf clinic.
The layout and rolling terrain of the course is reminiscent of North Carolina courses. Although the course is not extremely tight, allowing you to swing away, an errant shot may be caught among century old oak trees lining each picturesque fairway. Several holes have sharp doglegs approaching elevated greens which require precise iron play. Four sets of tees allow golfers of all skill levels to enjoy this course.
