About Us:
Menahga is a small, friendly town located in the Northwest region of Minnesota. Menahga is rich in heritage, is recreationally central, and is a popular town for its yearly festivities and events.

The name "Menahga" was derived from the Indian word "blueberry," a wild fruit that grows in Pine forests. Native Americans and pioneers sold and traded blueberries through local merchants. The area of Menahga was settled by immigrants of Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. Menahga has two popular slogans: "The Gateway to the Pines" and "The Home of Saint Urho.

Menahga received the first slogan "Gateway to the Pines" in 1916. Following the completion of Jefferson Highway, now Hwy 71, a large group of dignitaries including Louisiana's governor traveled the road and visited Menahga. The governor announced in a speech he had traveled "from the palms to the pines.

Menahga's second slogan "Home of Saint Urho" is directed towards the statue of Saint Urho located on Hwy 71. The legendary patron saint of Finland serves as a way for visitors to remember Menahga and commemorates a March celebration "Saint Urho's Day" for citizens to patronize their Finnish ancestry.
